Former NFL Football Player
Doug Middleton, from Winston-Salem, NC, is a graduate of Appalachian State University, where he earned a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. During his time at Appalachian State, Doug was an All-Conference and All-American safety, leading his team to its first bowl game appearance and victory in 2015.
In 2016, Doug signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets, where he played for three seasons before spending two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His sixth season was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.
After losing his best friend to suicide, he founded the Dream The Impossible Mental Health Foundation to raise awareness and provide support. In 2017, Doug's foundation, Dream The Impossible, won the NFLPA Community MVP Award for Week 15.
Doug is a passionate mental health advocate, yoga instructor, speaker, and the owner of Dream Yoga and Wellness, a luxury wellness center in Indian Land, SC, that offers yoga and mental health therapy. In 2023, he received the Young Alumni Award from Appalachian State, the highest honor for an alumnus under 40, and the Public Service Lifesaver Award from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
