Anthony Chambers, Ph.D., ABPP, is the Chief Academic Officer at The Family Institute at Northwestern University. Dr. Chambers is also the Director of Northwestern University's Center for Applied Psychological and Family Studies and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychology. Dr. Chambers is also the former President and Fellow of the APA’s Society for Couple and Family Psychology (Division 43), the Former-President and Fellow of the American Academy of Couple and Family Psychology, and he recently served on APA’s Board of Directors. Dr. Chambers is also a diplomat and board-certified in treating couples.
Dr. Chambers received his BA in Psychology from Hampton University and completed both his M.A. & Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Virginia. He completed his internship and postdoctoral clinical residency at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital focused on the treatment of couples. He then completed a second postdoctoral clinical research fellowship at The Family Institute at Northwestern University focused on developing and testing a feedback system for conducting empirically informed systemic therapy with couples.
In addition to engaging in higher education and health care administration, Dr. Chambers engages in scholarly writing, editorship, teaching and public speaking aimed at disseminating the latest knowledge about how to have a healthy relationship. Prior to taking on his administrative responsibilities, Dr. Chambers was seeing 35-50 couples/week. He still maintains an active and diverse clinical practice of 15-20 couples/week.
