Evidence-based practices (EBPs) can help improve symptoms of mental illness (e.g., Cusack et al., 2016; Edinger et al., 2021). However, there is room for improvement. Long-term outcomes of EBPs are variable (e.g., Cuijpers et al., 2020; Kazdin, 2018; McPherson & Senra, 2022; van der Zweerde et al., 2019). Moreover, many patients do not receive – or have limited access to – appropriate EBPs that align with their needs (e.g., Lee et al., 2021). Consistent with ABCT’s mission to improve well-being through behavioral and cognitive science and the 2024 convention themes of innovation and community engagement, the goal of this symposium is to present cutting-edge research on innovations to improve engagement, outcomes, and access to cognitive behavioral EBPs. Of note, the innovations highlighted in this symposium are “pantreatment” and “transdiagnotic” meaning that they could be applied to a wide range of treatments for patients presenting with different disorders (Barlow et al., 2004; Fairburn et al., 2003; Harvey et al., 2004). The first speaker will present data from a randomized clinical trial that utilized a novel, multivariate decision-making algorithm for triaging and adapting levels of mental health care for depression and anxiety. The second talk will present provider and patient data on feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary outcomes of integrating digital cognitive behavior therapy for insomnia in routine psychotherapy for depression and anxiety. The third speaker will present outcomes from a comparison of five empirically-supported strategies designed to change patients’ habits and symptoms, in the context of sleep problems. The fourth speaker will present qualitative data on bilingual therapists’ and trainers’ experiences of delivering Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to meet the needs of Spanish-speaking families. The fifth speaker will present an intervention paradigm and qualitative data from an ecological momentary intervention designed to help young adults with co-occurring mood/anxiety and alcohol use symptoms in real time. The discussant, a leader in the development and implementation of EBPs, will synthesize these findings; provide insights on developing EBP innovations that enhance outcomes, engagement, and access; and discuss critical directions for future research.
